The Surabaya Zoo in Indonesia welcomed a new baby hippo to the zoo family on Sunday, February 1, 2009. Named Mardiyah, the female hippopotamus weighed just 25 kilograms at birth. Her mother, Agustin, is helping her learn to walk and is getting her accustomed to her enclosure at the zoo.
You can see a picture of Mardiyah and her mother here.
The zoo, which opened in 1916, is notable for breeding the first captive orangutans.
