Silver & Howlite Hippo Necklace

Here’s a necklace I finished last week that I’m quite pleased with. I’ve had these gray and white howlite beads in my drawer for over a year now and I had no idea what to do with them. I bought them online by mistake, thinking I was clicking on something else. I’m not a big fan of these beads as they aren’t exactly my favorite colors. I took them out the other day thinking I might sell them on eBay or Etsy just to get rid of them but then I thought, no, why don’t I consider this a challenge and try to make something from them. I gathered up all my silver and black beads that might complement the howlite and started messing around with a design. At first the necklace didn’t even have a hippo in it. Then I remembered that I had bought these roaring hippos a while back so I dug them out too. Finally a design emerged from the chaos:

I’m quite pleased with the result and only reluctantly decided to put this up for sale – I kind of wanted to keep it!

Here’s the description from the website: “Our one-of-a-kind silver and howlite hippo necklace is carefully strung with glass, silver, and semi-precious howlite stone beads in a random placement. Howlite is a Californian mineral that is believed to absorb anger and relieve stress. This 21″ long necklace is a matinee length, perfect for casual or business dress and would work well with a v-neck shirt or collared blouse.”
