Primrose the hippopotamus and her two daughters, Tulip and six-month-old Lotus, have made themselves at home in their new habitat at the Werribee Open Range Zoo. The new habitat, featuring a string of pools containing 5 million litres of water, is inspired by the Okavango Delta highland area in Botswana.
The new development, built around a string of pools containing five million litres of water, is modelled on the Okavango Delta highland area in Botswana and is complete with swimming holes, sandy beaches, mud holes, and African grasses. Zoo visitors can view the hippos from a safe boardwalk.
Two other hippos live at Werribee: 30-year-old father Harry and an unrelated female, Brindabella.
