Ever wonder how the world looks through the eyes of a hippo?

“I’m Lu the Hippopotamus” is the “true” story of the one and only hippo that resides at the Homosassa Springs State Wildlife Park. A holdover from the days when the park featured exotic animals, Lu was a movie star who became a popular attraction. When the State took over management of the park they intended to relocate the hippo, but residents banded together to keep the hippo in place. Their successful effort made Lu an honorary state citizen and gave him the right to spend the remainder of his life at the park.

This picture book tells of his daily experiences at the park from Lu’s point of view. The book was “told to” Vicky Iozzia, a volunteer at the Park who does the educational program and feeds him twice a week. Over time, Vicky has fallen in love with Lu, as have many people from all over the world who come to visit him year after year, decade after decade.

The paperback book is 24 pages long and sells for $16.00. Buy it here.
